Can’t Find Your Keys? Here’s Help
Revenue Cycle Metrics
Providing a way for an organization to measure its success is a valuable tool. The National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM) has developed that valuable tool called the AccessKeys®. The AccessKeys® are a set of 34 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) which enable revenue cycle leaders to measure front end performance against industry standard benchmarks. Whether you know where your keys are or not, it is never too late to pick up a few extra keys. Here’s the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY and HOW about the AccessKeys®.
Who are the AccessKeys® for?
The AccessKeys® are for all hospital CFOs, revenue cycle leaders, patient access professionals, and patient access staff. All individuals who have ownership in the front-end revenue cycle functions of the hospital. This also includes trainers, educators, and quality assurance staff who support the revenue cycle operations.
What are the AccessKeys®?
The AccessKeys® are a set of 34 KPIs focusing on front end revenue cycle functions. They are grouped into six functional domains (Collections, Conversions, Patient Experience, Critical Processes, Productivity, and Accuracy). For each key an equation is given to indicate the source data needed to calculate the metric, as well as good, better, and best benchmark levels.
When are the AccessKeys® used?
The time to use the AccessKeys® is now. No time like the present to start tracking your organization’s revenue cycle performance and identifying opportunities for improvement. You will need to consider when you will begin using the new KPIs and how often you want to measure them; daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly.
Where are the AccessKeys® used?
The AccessKeys® are used in all Patient Access areas such as scheduling, authorizations, pre-registration, insurance verification, upfront collections, medical necessity, registration, and financial counseling.
Why use the AccessKeys®?
What gets measured gets done, but the data alone does no good, it is the benchmarks that tell the true story of how well an organization is really doing compared to their peers. The AccessKeys® provide a way to hold staff accountable and focused on a goal. They are industry standards that are validated and re calibrated by peer surveys from hospitals across the nation. The AccessKeys® will enable your organization to go from good to better to best!
