The Paradigm Shift - Scheduling, Registering, Billing and Collecting Has Changed Dramatically

Over the past 20 years, the job of the revenue cycle staff--scheduling and registering patients and then billing and collecting payment--has changed dramatically. A registration or billing position at a hospital is no longer an entry-level clerical position. Instead, staff need to be knowledgeable about relevant regulations, medical necessity criteria, managed care authorization requirements, coordination of benefit assignment rules, payer billing requirements, and collection techniques, to name a few.

Historically, hospital patient access and patient accounts departments have relied on the “watch and learn” method of training new staff and put little emphasis on continuing education. The reliance on oral transfer of information hinders the dissemination of accurate, consistent information on a timely basis. In addition, new hire programs often focus on the mastery of an organization’s computer system and what information is required in specific fields (rote training), rather than the development of key skills and overall understanding of the revenue cycle.

Now There Is A College Program that Addresses the Need

Montcalm Community College and BridgeFront have combined resources to create and deliver these valuable educational courses to students, preparing them as candidates for Revenue Cycle positions in healthcare. Now you can learn how to implement this NEW and UNIQUE program at your community college.

During the 60 minute online meeting, Ms. Kwast and Mrs. Schnelle will provide insight on:

  • How to create a proposal to present the new Healthcare Revenue Cycle Specialist program to your academic board

  • Key implementation and marketing steps

  • Instructional material that is available for your use

  • How to monitor the success of the Healthcare Revenue Cycle Specialist program
